How to Fit Garage Door Bottom Seals

Stormstop garage door bottom seals are quality products that’ll help you effectively block out any draughts and dust as well as water from entering under your garage door. We’ve put together a quick installation guide for you to help you seal your garage door (keep in mind it may be a good idea to ask someone to assist you fit the seal).

The first step will be to choose the best place to fit the seal on the bottom inside edge of the door and pre-drill holes in the carrier if needed (Stormstop products offer the option to request fixing holes and screws to be added when ordering). Then secure the aluminium carrier using clamps / tape for drilling and mark the screw positions with a pencil through the pre-drilled holes or drill directly using a 2.5mm drill bit. You’ll need to check the door closes properly before screwing and if needed to trim the seal ends.

To fasten the self-tapping screws included you can either use a drill or screwdriver. At the end make sure to remove any clamps and you’re all set to enjoy a waterproof garage!

Step 1

First, clean the bottom inside edge of the garage door and check the length of the seal against the width before choosing the best position to fix the seal. If necessary, pre-drill holes in the seal carrier.

Step 2

Use clamps or strong tape to secure the aluminium carrier for drilling. Make sure that the carrier is level / sits tightly against the edge of the door to make sure you’re creating an even seal against the floor. Having someone help hold it can make things easier.

Step 3

When the seal is in position, mark the screw holes with a pencil. You can either use the existing holes or drill your own with a 2.5mm drill bit. Check the alignment before making any new holes.

Step 4

Fasten the self-tapping screws provided with a screwdriver or a drill and remove any clamps. Make sure you’re not overtightening the screws to avoid damaging the carriers and / or the door. Keep checking everything’s still properly aligned as you’re tightening as things can slightly move around while screws are going in.

Step 5

To finish, make sure the door closes properly and trim the ends of the seal if needed.
